Progress is going really well now on the hall refurbishment. All the demolition and cutting back is now complete, the roof has been stripped and we are well on our way putting things back. The external walls to the toilets and kitchen extensions are nearly complete and all the drainage has been replaced. We have also so much confidence in additonal grants coming in that we have instructed the contractor to make a start on the new store rooms as well. The photos tell the story. Roger has also had some money for landscaping and has planted trees on the bank.Friday, 19 March 2010

Progress to Date

This is my third report and will deal with what the builders have achieved to date. Since we started on 15th February all the demolition of the old lean too's is complete and we have started building the new foundations for the toilets and bar area. We are putting extra foundations in to carry another skin of external wall with lots of insulation.
Internally the old hall floor and stage have been removed. The floor we were hoping to save but it was too well fixed down and broke up as we lifted it so a new one has been ordered. The ceiling has gone and all the old fixtures and fittings. The stage has been taken out, about half of it was rotten with woodworm and this has been put out with the floor for firewood for the community.
Refurbishment - What Is Going On?
Hi this is my second report on the Village Hall refurbishment. In the excitement of getting the job started I didn't tell you what is happening so here goes.
We have been granted £300,000 by the Welsh Ministers and are expecting a further £90,000 from Biffaward and Rural Development Key Fund. This money together with some from Rudry District Council and hall funds will provide:-
New Toilets
New Kitchen
Large Side Conservatory Style extension to the hall overlooking the playing fields
New Roof
New Bar Area
Lots of New Storage.
New Ground Source Heat Pump and Ground Coils under the fields to get virtually free heat 24/7
New underfloor heating
New Hall Floor
New Windows and Doors
Lots of insulation to the external walls, floor and roof to keep all that precious heat in.
An overflow car park
New drainage
Lots of painting and decoration
New patio slabs
